Summer is right around the corner and there is something so romantic about this time of year. It’s been a season of (positive) life changes for B and I, so we really wanted to celebrate and reconnect as a couple. Last August we stayed at a charming mini luxury resort in Mount Vernon, Ohio and when we learned that Romantic Adventure Getaways had opened a new location, we just had to check it out. Nestled amongst the hills in scenic rural southern Ohio, Hillsboro is the perfect setting for this intimate getaway.
When we first arrived, we easily found convenient designated parking behind the mansion. Checking into our suite was also a breeze. All we had to do was enter our code, which had been sent to us previously. I highly recommend getting there right at check-in time (5 pm) so you can get your adventure started right away!
Walking into the house for the first time, we were absolutely blown away. It is stunning!
Another thing I noticed right away was how clean and new everything felt. Also the property is extremely secure and we felt safe and right at home the entire time. The resort and suite are completely private, which I very much appreciate.
Our suite was on the second floor and as we climbed the stairs our anticipation and excitement grew. We always love the way Romantic Adventure Getaways designs their suites, and this trip was no different!
This time we stayed in the Treasure Island suite. The suite really felt like it was designed just for us. It was like reliving our honeymoon in the Florida Keys, with a tropical paradise pirate adventure theme.
There was a life size pirate ship right in the middle of our bedroom! When we explored it further, we found that our bed was on the deck, complete with a rainbow sunset sky.
Throughout our stay at this completely private mini luxury resort my husband and I worked together to unlock secret rooms that inspire intimacy and fun. It is the perfect excuse to flirt and just act silly together. It’s like an interactive Scooby Doo Mansion for adults with concealed passage ways, hidden tunnels, slides, and trap doors.
My other favorite features of the suite were the giant steam room/shower, the red light therapy massage room, massage chairs, and mermaid grotto dressing room.

We could not believe the level of detail and creativity put into every aspect of the decoration in our room. The more we explored, the more we discovered that every object and decorative detail in our room had meaning, and could potentially help us solve clues as we went along. We really felt like we had been whisked away on a pirate ship, and from the start, it was incredibly romantic.
After an hour or so of exploring our suite, we decided to take a break to get dinner and explore the town. We enjoyed a casual and delicious dinner at The Alley Neighborhood Grill.
When we arrived back at the mansion we spent some time sitting and talking on the gorgeous front porch before heading back inside to continue exploring our suite. We found a few more hidden rooms and then the most exciting surprise of all, a hidden cave filled with treasures!
The next morning we enjoyed coffee that had been provided for us in the cozy captains table dining nook.
Then we walked down the street to Sassafras Kitchen and Coffee Bar for breakfast. It was a very peaceful and relaxing morning.
The mansion is also nearby to several tourist attractions such as the Serpent Mound and Rocky Fork State Park, which we visited on our way home.
