Homemade Jalapeno Cheddar Turkey Burger with Aioli and Fries

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

Since I am allergic to red meat we do a lot with ground turkey. Here is one of our spicey favorites, perfect for a summer night!

What you need for the burgers:

1 lb. of 93-99% lean ground turkey

1 egg

½ cup Italian seasoning bread crumbs

½- 1 cup of cheddar cheese

1-2 diced jalapenos

3 tablespoons milk

2 tablespoons A1 or Worcester sauce

Cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to taste ~ 1/8 -1 teaspoon each

1 onion

1 large tomato

1 tablespoon olive oil

Hamburger buns or large lettuce leaves

What you will need for the garlic mayo or Aioli:

3 cloves garlic

1 cup mayonnaise or avocado mayo

1 ½ teaspoon fresh- squeezed lemon juice

1/8 teaspoon salt

What you need for the fries:

4 medium Russet potatoes

Olive oil spray

Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

1. Prep your ingredients:

Cut the potatoes into sticks or thin wedges. Leave the skin on for extra crispy fries. Soak in water for at least 30 minutes.

Cut onion into strips (think fajita style).

Dice tomato.

Crush garlic with the flat of a knife, remove the skin and mince. Then using the flat of the knife smooth the garlic into a paste on your cutting surface.

Squeeze lemon juice into a small bowl.

2. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Line a metal baking sheet with foil. Coat foil in olive oil spray. After potatoes have soaked place them on baking sheet on a single layer, and generously spray with olive oil spray. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder over them to taste. Bake for 30- 35 minutes.

3. While potatoes are baking combine salt, garlic, mayo, and lemon juice. Whisk ingredients together. Cover and place in refrigerator to allow the flavors to develop.

4. Mix ground turkey, egg, bread crumbs, cheese, jalapenos, A1 or Worcester, milk, herbs, and spices in a large bowl. Form into burger patties with your hands.

5. Heat two skillets with olive oil on stovetop medium heat as not to burn the oil. One to cook the patties in, one to sauté onions and tomatoes. Or if you are grilling the patties, heat grill and one skillet. Cook/ grill patties until they reach an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees F. About 5-7 minutes per side. Simultaneously sauté onion and tomatoes until onions are golden brown.

6. Plate the dish. Place burger on the bottom bun and top with sautéed vegetables. Spread Aioli on the top bun. Instead of buns, you can also use large lettuce leaves. Add fries to the plate. Mix any left-over Aioli with ketchup to dip the fries in.

7. Enjoy!!!

Tip: in the last few minutes of cooking the fries, toast the buns in the oven or throw them on the grill! Also always make sure to clean your produce really well, especially the potatoes!
