10 Minute Everyday Makeup Routine

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

Have you ever stopped to think about how much time you spend every day doing your makeup? How many times have you woke up a little later than planned and scrambled to get ready? Recently I decided to time myself while doing my everyday makeup routine, and this is what I found. I think you can still go out into the world confident of your make up look, without spending more than 12 minutes doing it! All it takes is finding the right products for YOU and a little practice.

Unless I am really in the mood, or want to get very dressy (which isn’t often, I’m a casual type girl), I really just don’t want to spend the time on it! I could watch people do their make up all day, I truly think it is an art form, I personally am just too impatient for it. Plus, I am usually going to be going for a hike, taking the dogs to the park, running errands, or doing yoga so there is no need for a full face every day.

So, what was my time? It took me exactly 10 minutes and 21 seconds to do my routine! This is my step by step process and the products I use.

The key to success with any routine is a good foundation. And by that, I mean healthy skin! I actually hate wearing foundation. Even with the best and most lightweight formulas I always feel like I am wearing a mask or like my pores are clogging! I do wear it on occasion and love the way it looks, but want to take it off as soon as I apply it. Instead, focusing more on skincare so I don’t have to wear it at all!

To set myself up for success, the night before I apply my Golden Star Beauty Self-Tanning Facial Serum. I do this after I wash my face, but 3-4 hours before my moisturizer. Every other, or every third night I use about 3-4 pumps on the small tanning applicator to apply it evenly all over my face. This is probably one of my favorite products of all time! It’s made with USDA certified organic rosehip oil, B5, and Hyaluronic acid. The color is very natural and even. It smells amazing and leaves my skin glowing and feeling moisturized! It is truly my secret to never needing to wear foundation. These products are great if you don’t have a ton of (or any) experience with tanning at home because Golden Star sends lots of information, resources, and links to “how to” videos with every order. Plus all Golden Star Beauty products are vegan so what’s not to love?

Now that our skin is healthy and glowing, let's put some makeup on!

After washing my face, I apply my FAB 5 in 1 moisturizer + SPF 30.

Then I do my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow in color Taupe. I refuse to leave my house without at least doing my brows and using some mascara. I love this formula because it is long-wearing and can be made to look very bold or very natural.

Next, I put on a little eyeshadow from the Colour Pop “Going Coconuts” palate. The neutral colors are perfect for everyday wear. They blend nicely and stay pigmented. The powder does have a little bit of fall out but overall, it isn’t as bad as a lot of other eyeshadows I have used. Usually, I just do a monochrome look with “Coolada” or “Lovely Bunch” packing it darker into the crease, then blending it out over the top and bottom lids, highlighting right under my brow with “Palm Reader.” Then if I am feeling it, I will do a quick small wing with this NYX liner, or just line my inner upper lash line with a waterproof black pencil liner like this one from Rimmel. Usually, I skip the liner and just apply a generous amount (at least two coats) of mascara to upper and lower lashes. My favorite Mascara’s are Two Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof and Mark Jacobs Beauty At Lash’d Lengthening Mascara.

As a highlighter, I actually use the NYX Born to Glow Illuminating Primer. It is so shimmery and smooth and looks so pretty on bare skin. Since it is translucent you can build it up for the shine you want, and because it is a liquid it stays looking dewy and wet on your skin. Using your fingertips, just dab some along your upper brow bone under your eye and up around your eyebrows. Then move and tilt your face to see where else the light hits you, (for me it’s the bridge of my nose, upper lip, and mid chin) and apply it there too.

For blush, I like to use a shimmery jelly type blush like this Harry Potter inspired one from Ulta or this one from Rimmel. Just use a finger to lightly apply some to the apples of your cheeks and the tip of your nose (because TikTok told me to do this so I do).

Then contour with the Make Up Forever Refillable Pallet. I love this because you can build your own pallet then just refill the colors as you need to. Currently, my pallet includes Color S116- Medium Shadow Sculpt for a darker counter when I am tanner, S112 for a lighter more natural look, and H102 Shimmery Alabaster Pink for highlight/ blush.

Finally, I set the look with Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray, do a bit more highlight over top, this time using the powder from my Make Up Forever Pallet, put some Vaseline Lip Therapy on, and VOILA! 10 minutes later and I am done and ready to move on with my day!
